Red deer have roamed Exmoor since prehistoric times.

The Exmoor National Park Rangers tell us there are about three thousand deer on Exmoor, living on both moorland and farmland, and normally using the woodlands for cover.

Red deer are the largest of our wild land animals in England. Adult stags can stand over a metre at the shoulder. Hinds are usually just under.

Only the stags grow the iconic antlers.
